From clean-sheet design to a production wearable
Co-Founder & CEO · NNOXX · 2022–June 2026
Context
NNOXX set out to bring optical sensing into a wearable performance platform. Creating the product required a company capable of connecting disciplines that are often developed separately.
Challenge
The optical system, hardware, firmware, software, physical design, manufacturing process, and commercial plans had to develop together. Progress in one area was only useful if it could work within the constraints of the others.
What I did
I led the company’s effort across engineering, product, fundraising, supply chain, manufacturing, and commercialization. My work included connecting technical decisions to production requirements, bringing specialist expertise into difficult problems, and keeping a multidisciplinary team moving toward delivery.
For one optical challenge, I brought in expertise from deep-sea optics to help address the problem in a wearable setting. When a critical vendor failed, I led the recovery effort to contain the disruption.
Result
The team moved from clean-sheet design to production in approximately 18 months. NNOXX raised approximately $15 million during my tenure. The vendor recovery limited the schedule impact to roughly 60 days.
A peer-reviewed pilot study subsequently evaluated NNOXX muscle-oxygen-saturation measurements against a laboratory reference system during incremental cycling. The study provides a specific piece of evidence about that measurement and protocol.
What it demonstrates
Leadership across a technically demanding product and the company required to produce it: integrating expertise, resolving dependencies, and delivering through setbacks.
